A free talk by internationally renowned media man, Dan Gillmor, offered in conjunction with the US Consulate and the Journalism School at Rhodes University.
Gilmor is an internationally recognized leader in new media and citizen-based journalism; he is a blogger, author, media investor, and co-founder of several online businesses. He is the Director of the Knight Center for Digital Media Entrepreneurship at Arizona State University's Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication, and Kauffman Professor of Digital Media Entrepreneurship.
He is also Director of the Center for Citizen Media, a joint project with Arizona State University and Harvard University's Berkman Center for Internet & Society. His book, 'We the Media: Grassroots Journalism by the People, for the People' (2004; O'Reilly Media) is widely acclaimed, and has been translated into 6 languages.
Previously, he was a columnist at the San Jose Mercury News, Silicon Valley's daily newspaper, and wrote a weblog for SiliconValley.com, one of the first (and perhaps the first) blog by a journalist for a traditional media company. When he isn't travelling the world, such as to South Africa for the Highway Africa Conference in Grahamstown, Dan Gillmor makes his home in Phoenix,Arizona.
