ALARA World Congress 2010

(Participatory) Action Research & Action Learning - Participate in the World Congress

Action Learning Action Research Association (ALARA) (and hosted by Borderlands Coop) is holding the 8th ALARA World Congress in Melbourne this September.

I thought that some people at Huddlemind may be interested in SUBMITTING AN ABSTRACT for the Congress, or in ATTENDING the congress.

The theme of this years Congress is 'Participatory Action Research and Action Learning: Appreciating our Pasts, Comprehending our Presents, Prefiguring our Futures'.

If you would like, I can send you the CALL FOR PAPERS and the INVITATION for you to circulate among your contacts. For more information visit www.alra.net.au (top right hand corner is a drop-down
box titled 'World Congress 2010').

Greetings to everyone in the AR-PAR community. I am looking forward to seeing long-time friends in the PAR world and meeting new folks in September. As I approach 60 (which I am sure is the new 45) I imagine this may be my last AR-PAR World Congress.

So far I am thinking of submitting an abstract for a session related to the 4th Theme: Practice/Praxis. My colleague Julie Horwitz and I have been working with K-12 teachers for the last 10 years who are doing year- long AR projects in their own classroom-school. During that time I have been teaching a two-semester course on critical AR for these teachers. We're thinking of building a session around lessons learned (tensions, challenges, successes) from teaching AR for/with K-12 teachers and tentative implications for teaching educational AR in higher education.

I am also talking with Mary Brydon-Miller to see how we might collaborate. For years Mary has
connected with my AR course in an on-line author's forum (via Blackboard). My students read
one of her articles on ethics in AR, then have an opportunity to engage in on-line discussion with her via Blackboard. I have in turn peridocially engaged with Mary's U of Cincinnati AR class on issues of feminisms and AR in a similar Author's Forum on line.

What are you thinking of for the conference? What would you like to have happen for yourself and colleagues at the conference?

Thank you to the ALARA folks for all the initial planning and organizing yet another World Congress!
